If it's good, I'll read it! Instagram: @crystenasbooks
Author: Sebastien de Castell
Series: Greatcoats #1
Rating: 5 stars. I'd give it 6 if I could.
Quick review: One of the best books I've read this year.
Book Blurb: With swashbuckling action that recall Dumas' Three Musketeers Sebastien de Castell has created a dynamic new fantasy series. In Traitor's Blade a disgraced swordsman struggles to redeem himself by protecting a young girl caught in the web of a royal conspiracy. The King is dead, the Greatcoats have been disbanded, and Falcio Val Mond and his fellow magistrates Kest and Brasti have been reduced to working as bodyguards for a nobleman who refuses to pay them. Things could be worse, of course....
This book was fun.
It's funny. It's heartbreaking. It's twisty.
It's a great book.
Falcio, Kest and Brasti's banter reflect a chemistry that is rarely done this well on paper. Some of the twists you can see coming, but dangit - it was so much fun getting there predictability doesn't damage your enjoyment. The action never let up and there are definitely twists I never saw coming. The world created was rich but accessible. For me, there was no adjustment period to figure out what terms meant, political structure, etc. Terms were different but they made sense. You could open the book and just lose yourself. My favorite type of reading.
This book was so good. Did I say it was good?
Go. Sample it - I dare ya to see if you can stop reading.
I have to read the next book- so glad it's out.
