The Great Hunt

The Great Hunt - Wendy Higgins

Author: Wendy Higgins

Rating: 3.5 stars

Book Blurb: When a monstrous beast attacks in Eurona, desperate measures must be taken. The king sends a proclamation to the best and bravest hunters: whoever kills the creature will win the hand of his daughter Princess Aerity as a reward. The princess recognizes her duty but cannot bear the idea of marrying a stranger—she was meant to marry for love—until a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention. And while there’s no denying the fiery chemistry between them, Princess Aerity feels that Paxton’s mysteriousness is foreboding, maybe even dangerous.

Paxton is not the marrying type. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He is determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast—but the princess continues to surprise him, and the secrets he’s buried begin to surface against his wishes.

This story was simple, very linear.  What I expected to happen, happened save the ending. Also this book was heavy on the romance but not graphic. Overall, it was an enjoyable read in spite of the fact that Paxton Seabolt, the main love interest, was not likable at all. While the author did explain his reasons, it didn't change the fact he was rude and just ugghh for most of the book. I did not like him.

The cliffhanger ending is enough to make me want to pick up the next book in the duology.

Recommend if you want a light read and want to kill some time.

Oh and cover hate: the author herself apologized saying the girl on the cover does NOT match the description in the book but the decision was out of her hands. The main character is blond haired, not red. A bit of a cover fail there.
